About Us

Libraries matter. 

Cavan County Council’s Library Service provides unlimited and free access to information, education, leisure, entertainment and business development.  CavanLibrary Service exists to improve and enhance the quality of life for all ages and all groups in society. Our service is a conduit for active citizenship and a hub for local activity.  
 

We have come a long way since our humble beginnings  in Cavan Courthouse in 1930. 
 

We now provide:

  • Three full-time libraries

  • Six part-time libraries

  • Free library membership and free lending. Our no fines policy breaks down all barriers tolibrary membership

  • Three multi-purpose spaces with active and engaging arts, cultural, educational and community events programming.

  • Free Wi-Fi and Internet access

  • Dedicated study spaces and with access to photocopying/printing/scanning facilities

  • E-Library services including free access Online Library services.

  • An extensive Local History Collection and Local History Service 

  • Library services to Primary and Secondary School throughout Co. Cavan with dedicated library visit schedules

  • National Library Programmes ie. Right to Read, Healthy Ireland at Your Library, Work Matters

  • A library service at Loughan House Prison 

 

Cavan Library Service publishes 'The Bookmark', a monthly newsletter which features up-to-date information on all Cavan libraries, our events and general library news.
