Culture Night with Cavan Libraries. Come Together Again!

We're celebrating Culture Night 2021 on Friday September 17th with host of events - some online and some in-person/in-library events! Bailieborough Library will host ‘Cherished Captures’, a photographic exhibition by local photographer Oliver Gargan. Cootehill Library will have a live demo with sculptor Marie Smith focusing on her now famous sculture 'The Hug'. Cavan Library Service has two online events planned - Bilingual talk / Léacht dhátheangach le Aogán Ó Fearghaíl on “Ardscoil Bhreifne Glangevlin” and "The Mummers Lines" – a bilingual poetry & music performance by the Armagh Rhymers. Poetry Towns for Bailieborough and Cootehill - 10th-18th September

@Poetry Ireland is underway for both Cootehill and Bailieborough! As part of the initiative, Poetry Ireland, together with its local authority partners, has appointed a Poet Laureate for each town - Noel Monahan for Cootehill and Mairéad Donnellan for Bailieborough and their poems are now available to view at cavanarts.ie or here on our website!

Decade of Centenaries Historian-in-Residence programme

Cavan County Council’s Historian in Residence, Dr Brendan Scott has been appointed to draw a Cavan based focus on the Decade of Centenaries. History lectures, podcasts, exhibitions, school outreach, and a published collection of historical essays are among the range initiatives planned as Dr Scott charts this tumultuous period in Irish history.
