It's challenging times for lots of people in our community with no power or connectivity. We're here to help. Pop into your local library to charge your devices, log on to our WIFI or just keep warm for a while. Check local library opening hours.

Library Closures due to Storm Warning.

In light of the advice from Government regarding the status red wind warning declared for County Cavan for Storm Éowyn all Cavan Library Branches will remain closed on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th January. This is to ensure the safety of the public and library staff. You can access your library account online and borrow from our Online Library throughout the closure. Normal opening hours resume on Monday 27th January. Stay safe everyone... and read!

Archive of records from Belturbet's Agricultural Show

Belturbet's Agricultural Show was a community highlight in Belturbet every August for many decades. Recently, an archive of records was presented to the County Archives by two of the show's former organisers, Nuala Corrigan (treasurer) and Declan Fitzpatrick (secretary). This collection will be invaluable for researchers.

Library Closure

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Marleen Kennedy, Branch Librarian at Bailieborough & Kingscourt Libraries. As a mark of respect, all libraries in Co. Cavan will close at 4.00pm on Friday, 3rd of January.

Santa visit to Virginia Library during Quiet Time

Virginia Library welcomed an extra special visitor during monthly Quiet Time. Santa came along to meet children and their families to enjoy a calm and sensory experience that was pure magic! This was arranged and coordinated by Bright side of Dyslexia Cavan and we would like to congratulate them on organising this fantastic event for children with additional needs. Virginia Library staff got to meet the man of the moment too which was a real treat!

Christmas and New Year Opening Hours 2024

All libraries in Co. Cavan will be closed from 4.00pm on Friday 20th December. Johnston Central Library, Ballyconnell Library, Ballyjamesduff Library and Kingscourt Library will be open on the 30th & 31st December. Virginia Library, Bailieborough Library, Cootehill Library and Belturbet Library will be open on the 31st December. All Libraries remain closed on New Years Day. Normal opening hours resume on January 2nd 2025

Library Ireland Week 2024

The 1st - 7th December is Library Ireland Week 2024! It's the perfect time to pop into your nearest branch and enjoy some of the services provided by the library. From Book Clubs, Craft Groups, Reminiscence Groups, Storytimes and our wide range of online services there's something for everyone to enjoy. The public are invited to share what their library has meant to them this year for the LIW Competition using the #LIW24 hashtag.

Events Space at Belturbet Library for FREE

Did you know that Belturbet Library has an Events Space? It is available for exhibitions, workshops, classes, meetings etc. to compliment the role of the Library Service in the community. Belturbet Library is at the heart of the Community in the Townhall – a central & convenient location. The Event space is free for local, community, charitable & non-profit groups. Saturday 28th of September is National Library Open Day! Why not come along to learn more about all the services the library provides. With events in Johnston Central Library, Bailieborough, Cootehill, Virginia, Arva and Belturbet Libraries there's something for everyone. Culture Night! This Friday 20th September

Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council; it is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts. It is delivered nationwide in cities, towns, villages and rural locations and across venues (including our libraries) you can enjoy an eclectic mix of arts events - all for FREE! C-Pens available at all Cavan Libraries

We are delighted to make C-Pen Readers  available for lending from all of our branch libraries, as part of our Toys, Technology and Training Collection.  The C-Pen is a reader pen which scans and then reads text aloud to assist with independent reading. Visit your local Cavan Library branch to find out how to borrow a C-Pen Reader pen.  Members of the public can borrow a Reader Pen for a period of three weeks.

Sensory Toy Collection - Borrow at Virginia Library

We are delighted to announce that our Sensory Toy Collection is now available to borrow from Virginia Library. This means that toys & aids that have been selected to support children and adults with additional needs are available to parents, teachers and caregivers in Cavan. Register for a Toys, Technology and Training Card to borrow from the collection for FREE of course!

Win a Fussballliebe official Euro football!!!

You could win Fussballliebe the next time you visit your local library in Cavan. Ask for the entry form at the desk and tell us about your favourite book. Competition open to those aged 12 and under. Enter before the 11th of July, as draw will take place on the 12th of July. Good Luck!

Cruinniú na nÓg 2024

Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people on Saturday 15 June 2024. This year’s Cruinniú na nÓg Cavan will spread its (fairy) wings for a special cross-border event in Cavan Burren Park as well as a host of other locations throughout Co Cavan. Our Community Garden Workshops

In preparation for Cruinniú na nÓg children can take part this month in workshops across the county creating paper flowers representing the national flowers of everyone in our community. The gardens will be on display in the library from 15 June onwards!
